USA Synchro Picks Head Coach for World Championships, Selects Indianapolis as National Training Site

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 10. USA Synchro is proud to announce Mayuko "Mayu" Fujiki as the Head Coach of the 2011 FINA World Aquatics Championship and Pan American National Teams.

Fujiki competed in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta as a member of the Japanese National Team and helped lead Japan to a Bronze medal in the Team Program. Since retiring, Fujiki's elite level of coaching has landed her positions on the national coaching staffs of countries like Italy, Australia, Japan, Greece, Hungary, and, most recently, Spain, where just about one month ago she led the Spanish National Team to an Overall Gold Medal finish, topping synchro powerhouse Russia.

Fujiki will be training the 2011 US National Team in Indianapolis, Indiana, home of the USA Synchro National Headquarters and sponsor St. Vincent Sports Performance. "One of the most determining factors for the decision to move the training was our relationship with St. Vincent Sports Performance," USA Synchro Business Development Director Jordan Dillon stated. "They are truly dedicated to help us get our team back on the podium and keep us there." USA Synchro and St. Vincent Sports Performance began their relationship last summer with the short-term training of the US National Junior Team. This is the first time they will be providing long-term services such as nutrition, sports psychology, and strength training for a USA Synchro National Team. "I think that both parties are really excited to see where we are going to take this. I have witnessed first-hand their team at work with elite athletes and I am truly confident that we are providing our athletes with the best resources possible," Dillon remarked.

The FINA World Championships and the Pan American Games are highly important competitions to the US in regards to qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London which means that Fujiki is being charged with some high expectations. "The primary goal is continue to develop the competitive excellence in the first national team, namely to qualify the team and duet to the 2012 Olympic Games and secondly to help in the development of the National Team Pipeline and development of future Olympic Athletes," National Team Director Sandra Mahoney added.

Fujiki will arrive in Indianapolis on January 11 and will then travel to San Antonio, Texas to participate in the Team Trials selection January 14-16.
The 14th FINA World Aquatics Championships will take place from July 16-31, 2011 in Shanghai, China and the 16th Pan American Games will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14-30, 2011.
