Scottish Short Course Championships: Hannah Miley Wins Three More

GLASGOW, Scotland, January 8. HANNAH Miley pulled off three more victories on the second day of competition at the British Gas Scottish short course championships.

Miley's first win came in the 200 backstroke, which she won in 2:12.68. Charlotte McKenzie was second in 2:15.22, and Nicole Wilson picked up third place with a 2:16.22.

Next up for Miley was the 100 butterfly, in which she pulled off a major comeback in the back half over Laura Dawson to win in 1:01.14. Dawson was second in 1:01.58 with Rachel O'Donnell taking third in 1:02.51.

The 400 free wrapped up Miley's competition for the day, with an easy win in 4:10.11. In second was Fiona Donnelly with a 4:13.84. Taking third was Lucy Gordon with a 4:17.79.

In other women's events, Sarah Hamilton won the 50 freestyle in 26.09 over Emma Hunter's 26.40. Third place went to Dawson with a 26.61.

Kathryn Johnstone won the 50 breaststroke in 31.69, with Corrie Scott taking silver in 32.52 and Andrea Strachan finishing third with a 33.06.

Jennifer Dobson won the 100 individual medley in 1:04.04 in a close battle with Hamilton, who took second just a fingernail back in 1:04.07. Scott was third in 1:05.33.

Edinburgh University won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.73, well ahead of East Lothian's 1:49.07. Warrender was third with a 1:50.17.

On the men's side, Martin Cremin took control of the men's mile early and never looked back, winning by 11 seconds with a 15:28.80. In second place was Stephen Milne with a time of 15:39.26. Third place went to Ian Porteous with a 15:55.01.

Douglas Scott was the winner of the 100 breaststroke with a 1:01.20, with Andrew Rodgie taking second in 1:02.20. Craig Benson rounded out the top three with a 1:02.39.

Lewis Smith took the men's 200 IM with a 2:00.84, while Dan Wallace took second with a 2:02.91. Ross Muir was third with a 2:03.85.

Ryan Bennett won the 50 back by more than a meter with a 24.75, with Craig McNally edging out Rory Lamont for second, 25.42 to 25.53.

Iain Macmillan used a strong final 50 meters to win the 200 fly in 1:58.58 over Andrew Mayor, who was second in 2:00.41. Calum McGhee took third in 2:03.41.

After winning two events on the first night of finals, Robbie Renwick took the 100 free tonight in 49.10, with Alistair Brown settling for second in 50.61. Kieran McGuckin was third with a 50.63.

Edinburgh University took the men's 200 free relay in 1:31.91, holding off Glasgow, who took second in 1:32.15. Third place went to the "B" team from Edinburgh with a 1:33.41.
