Two Million Apply for 2012 London Olympic Tickets

LONDON, England, December 28. TWO million people have already applied for tickets to the 2012 London Games, according to Inside the Games. The London Olympics will have a total of 8.8 million tickets, of which 6.6 million tickets will be sold to the public beginning in March.

"The sheer scale of this is mind-blowing," London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton told Inside the Games. "One of the key things for us in March is to make sure that things go smoothly. Making sure that everyone understands there is no advantage in submitting applications on the day. With two million people [on the database now], and probably nearer 2.5 million by March, it is also about making sure they are transferred into the ticketing system. It is a year of extraordinary demands in getting ready for the Games and in terms of operational delivery."

Tickets are starting at $31, and range upwards of $1,120 at face value. Meanwhile, tickets to the opening ceremony could run as high as $3,106 a ticket.
