FINA World Short Course Championships: Felicity Galvez Wins 100 Fly in Meet, Australian Record

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 19. AUSTRALIA's Felicity Galvez won a head-to-head shootout with Sweden's Therese Alshammar in the women's 100 fly at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Galvez checked in with a meet-record time of 55.43 to beat her meet mark of 55.89 set back in 2008 and move her to the top of the world rankings this year. She also downed her Australian record of 55.46 set in 2009, which had made Galvez the second fastest ever in the meet. She fell short of Diane Bui Duyet's world record of 55.05.

Alshammar, meanwhile, smoked a time of 55.73, while USA's Dana Vollmer earned third-place honors with a 56.25.

China's Liu Zige (56.61), China's Lu Ying (56.62), Denmark's Jeanette Ottesen (56.67), USA's Christine Magnuson (56.98) and The Netherlands' Inge Dekker (57.46) comprised the rest of the finale.
