FINA World Short Course Championships: Outside Smoke, Paul Biedermann Wins 400 Free From Lane 8

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 17. GERMANY's Paul Biedermann used the outside lane to produce the top time in the men's 400 free at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Biedermann emerged triumphant in 3:37.06 for the win, and knocked off more than two seconds from his previously top-ranked time of 3:39.51 set at the European Short Course Championships. Russia's Nikita Lobintsev joined him in the 3:37s with a second-place time of 3:37.84. Early leader Ous Mellouli of Tunisia, wound up taking third overall in 3:38.17.

USA's Peter Vanderkaay (3:38.44), Denmark's Mads Glaesner (3:38.56), France's Sebastien Rouault (3:40.07), France's Yannick Agnel (3:40.07) and Tunisia's Ahmed Mathlouthi (3:40.33) posted the rest of the championship swims.
