DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 17. THE semifinal heats of the men's 50 fly featured a new meet record at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Germany's Steffen Deibler hit the wall in 22.57 out of the first semifinal. That effort downed the 22.70 set by Adam Pine in 2008 in Manchester. Deibler has been much faster this year with a top-ranked 22.34 from the European Short Course Championships.

Brazil's Nicholas Santos checked in with a second-seeded time of 22.64, while Venezuela's Albert Subirats claimed the third seed in 22.68.

Australia's Geoff Huegill continued his amazing comeback with a fourth-place 22.87, while Japan's Masayuki Kishida and Spain's Rafael Munoz Perez tied for fifth with matching 22.88s. Ukraine's Andrii Govorov and Brazil's Glauber Silva tied for seventh with matching 22.93s to comprise the rest of the final field.
