USA Swimming Hires Davis as Marketing Director

COLORADO SPRINGS, June 11. USA SWIMMING reportedly has hired Rod Davis as its new Chief Marketing Officer. Davis replaces Skip Gilbert, who resigned last month to take a key marketing position with the Arena Football League.

A statement released by USA Swimming today describes Davis's background as follows:

"Davis comes to USA Swimming after nine years at USA Gymnastics, most recently as the Senior Vice President of Properties since 1998. Prior to that post, he was the Vice President of Sponsor and Broadcast Sales (1996-98) and the Vice President of Marketing (1992-96) at USA Gymnastics.

"Davis also served as the President and Tournament Director for the RCA Tennis Championships in Indianapolis in 1998 and 1999 and was the Vice President of Marketing for the Indiana Sports
Corporation from 1987-1992.

"'I believe that Rod is the perfect fit for USA Swimming,' said Chuck Wielgus, USA Swimming Executive Director. 'His knowledge of Olympic sports and NGB industry, his professional experiences in sponsorship sales and television broadcasting, and his overall skill set will help lead us to the next level in our quest to better market and promote our sport.

"'Additionally, his knowledge and experience working in the city of Indianapolis will be incredibly valuable in our efforts to plan, promote and stage the 2004 World Swimming Championships.'"

Davis, who reportedly is very highly regarded within the television industry, will be relocating with his family to Colorado Springs and will begin his duties at USA Swimming in mid-July.
