Brazilian Short Course Championships: Cesar Cielo Earns Third Gold Medal

SAO PAOLO, Brazil, December 4. THREE days, three gold medals for Cesar Cielo at the Brazilian Short Course Championships held in Sao Paolo.

Cielo won his third gold medal of the meet with a top time of 23.06 in the men's 50 fly. That swim came up just short of his fourth-ranked season best of 22.71 from the Jose Finkel Trophy in September. Nicholas Dos Santos claimed second in 23.11, while Gabriel Mangabeira finished third in 23.25.

Daniele Jesus topped the women's 50 fly in a meet-record 26.55 to move into the top 25 in the world rankings. Bruna Rocha touched second in 26.95, while Dandara Antonio pocketed third in 27.18.

Felipe Silva clocked a meet-record 58.67 to win the men's 100 breast, but has been much faster this year with the top-ranked 56.79 from the Jose Finkel Trophy in September. Felipe Lima earned second in 58.95, while Tales Cerdeira placed third in 59.09.

Poliana Okimoto lowered the meet record in the women's 800 free with a winning 8:39.79. Joanna Maranhao (8:44.84) and Ana Da Cunha (8:45.27) finished second and third.

Julia Gerotto captured the women's 400 IM in 4:47.14. Larissa Cieslak (4:51.93) and Maria Ferreira (4:58.25) bracketed her on the podium. Diogo Yabe touched out Thiago Simon, 4:14.82 to 4:14.86, for the men's 400 IM meet record. Giuliano Rocco finished third in 4:18.29.

Tatiana Barbosa claimed the women's 200 free title in 1:58.39, while Manuella Lyrio touched second in 2:00.87. Ana Da Cunha earned third in 2:02.47. Andre Schultz posted a meet-record 1:46.08 to win the men's 200 free. Leonardo Santos (1:47.20) and Lucas Kanieski (1:47.29) made up the rest of the top three.

Tatiana Sakemi won the women's 100 breast in 1:09.41 after setting the meet record in prelims with a 1:09.31. Renata Sander (1:10.38) and Juliana Marin (1:10.89) placed second and third.
