German Short Course Championships: Markus Deibler, Britta Steffen, Steffen Deibler Post Swift Winning Times

WUPPERTAL, Germany, November 12. A day after witnessing a German record at the German Short Course Championships, several more world-class swims went up on the scoreboard during the second day of swimming in Wuppertal.

Markus Deibler touched out Paul Biedermann, 1:43.77 to 1:43.95, for the men's 200 free title. Deibler moved to fifth in the world rankings with the effort, while Biedermann already owns a second-ranked season best of 1:43.03 from the Stockholm stop of the World Cup. Ben Starke finished third overall in 1:44.70.

Britta Steffen sprinted to victory in the women's 100 free with a 52.75, jumping into fourth in the world rankings this year. Only Femke Heemskerk (51.96), Dana Vollmer (52.50) and Sarah Sjostrom (52.65) have been faster. Daniel Schreiber took second in the finale in 53.37, while Silke Lippok tied Lisa Vitting for third with matching 53.75s.

Steffen Deibler ripped off a 22.51 for the men's 50 fly title. He just missed his second-ranked season best of 22.49 as only Roland Schoeman has been faster this year with a top-ranked 22.39. Starke took his second podium of the night with a 23.14 for second, while Philip Heintz placed third in 23.87.

Stefan Herbst won the men's 50 back in 24.59 in the finale, but posted his best time during prelims with a 24.14. Christian Diener touched second din 24.65, while Robert Konneker earned third in 25.08.

Sarah Poewe took home the women's 100 breast crown in 1:06.96, while Caroline Ruhnau placed second in 1:07.08. Laura Simon picked up third-place honors in 1:07.28.

Hendrik Feldwehr topped the men's 100 breast finale in 58.92. Markus Deibler nearly doubled up with his second podium of the night when he took second in 59.05, while Marco Kock placed third in 59.12.

Vitting went from third in the 100 free to gold in the women's 50 fly with a 26.52. Deborah Gonschorek placed second in 26.91, while Iris Rosenberger wound up third in 27.03.

Sarah Kohler earned the women's 800 free title in 8:29.05, while Elisa Thimm placed second in 8:35.39. Franziska Jansen rounded out the top three in 8:37.95.

Jenny Mensing checked in with a 2:07.11 to win the women's 200 back. Paula Beyer placed second in 2:10.09, while Lisa Graf finished just behind in 2:10.12. Christin Zenner just missed the podium with a fourth-place 2:10.20.

In relay action, Mannschaft's Karl-Richard Hennebach, Stefan Herbst, Serghei Golban and Tobias Horn won the men's 200 freestyle relay in 1:29.49. Meanwhile, Mannschaft teammates Sina Wegel, Sandra Koch, Theresa Michalak and Daniela Schreiber took home the women's 200 freestyle relay title in 1:41.50.
