Lehigh vs. Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, New Jersey, November 6. IN the second home meet of the season, the Bronc women won and the men lost against Lehigh Saturday.

For the Rider women, senior Brianna Burns (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley) won the 50 free (24.56), the 100 free (52.95), and the 200 free (1:54.78).

"I think the women came together today and performed well and raced well together," said head coach Steve Fletcher. "I thought that their focus as a team was a step in the right direction. Brianna (Burns) is the definition of consistent and she is swimming consistently fast. I am very pleased with how she has been training and racing. It is mature racing she is a senior and knows how to do it. It looks good for her senior year."

For the Rider men, sophomore Johnny Funk (Las Vegas, Nev./Southeast Career & Tech. Acad.) won the 100 fly (51.84), the 100 back (51.74), and the 200 back (1:55.48).

"The men are swimming well, I am pleased with how we are performing and I think our training is going really well," said Fletcher. "The day to day stuff that we do, I am really pleased with. The team is building up their workload and their workouts. They are getting well prepared and the racing is helping. We have to get better at turning close races in our direction. That is something that we have to work on."

Also for the Rider women, freshman Melanie Leonhard (Piscataway) won the 500 free (5:08.62) and the 1000 free (10:30.01), sophomore Kelly O'Connor (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) won the 100 fly (59.86) and the 200 fly (2:09.20), senior Aisley Carter (Clarksburg, Md./Walter Johnson) won the one meter dive (217.64) and the three meter dive (213.82), and sophomore Addie Oswald (Henderson, Nev./Green Valley) won the 200 back (2:06.01).

Also for the Rider men, junior Brendan Cavallaro (Middleboro, Mass./Middleboro) won the one meter dive (273.45) and the three meter dive (306.38) and sophomore Julien Hensen (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) won the 200 breast (2:12.13).

The Rider divers won all four dives and have been consistent all year long.

"This is a young group of divers," said Fletcher. "Aisley and Tom (senior Tom Smallwood (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville)) are kind of the leadership there, but it is a young team. They are progressing very quickly towards maintaining our diving competitiveness which we have always had. As a head coach I am very grateful for their success. It has been some really impressive stuff."

In Bethlehem last year, the Broncs split with the women winning.

Rider travels to Newark, Del., on Saturday November 13 to take on the Blue Hens of Delaware.

"We are looking forward in getting to go to a great facility," said Fletch. "University of Delaware is a fast pool so we are looking forward to racing well in a great facility."
