LSU vs. Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana, October 29. THE LSU women's swimming and diving team won 14 of 16 events to cruise past in-state rival Tulane Friday night in the Reily Center Natatorium.

With the victory, the LSU women improved to 3-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers will shoot for their fourth victory Saturday at 11 a.m., when both the men's and women's squads challenge ACC foe Florida State in the home opener at the LSU Natatorium.

"We were able to play with the lineup a little bit tonight," co-head coach David Geyer said. "However, we weren't as sharp as we could have been, and we need to be sharper tomorrow against Florida State. At the end of the day it's a victory, and we did find some options moving forward that we weren't sure about going in."

Nine different Lady Tigers emerged victorious in individual competition on the evening to spearhead the victory with senior Jane Trepp and sophomores Rebecca St. Germain, Amanda Kendall and Jana Ruimerman each capturing a pair of wins.

Trepp took first-place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1 minute, 4.11 seconds) and 100 freestyle (51.71), while St. Germain swept the springboard diving events with scores of 288.77 and 274.22 in the one-meter and three-meter, respectively.

Kendall raced to victory in the 50 free (23.83) and 100 butterfly (56.11), and Ruimerman delivered first-place in the 100 backstroke (57.21) and 400 individual medley (4:27.34).

Fellow sophomores Sara Haley, Audrey Lawson and Chelsea Griffiths pitched in with wins against the Green Wave. Haley touched in 1:53.53 in the 200 free to claim first-place, while Lawson posted the victory in the 200 fly (2:05.21). Griffiths was the victor in the 200 back (2:06.70).

Senior Kannon Betzen prevailed in the 500 free (5:02.40), and freshman Jessica Kopcso surged past the field in the 200 breaststroke with a winning time of 2:26.89.

Admission to the LSU-Florida State matchup on Saturday is free. In addition, Mike the Tiger and the LSU cheerleaders will be in attendance to root on the Tigers.
