Idaho, San Diego vs. UCLA

LOS ANGELES, California, October 29. THE UCLA swimming and diving team took down the Idaho Vandals and San Diego Toreros on Friday afternoon to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Bruins defeated Idaho 138-93 and San Diego 140-50-88.50 as they improved to 2-0 against the Vandals and 13-0 versus the Toreros.

During the meet, the Bruins broke four meet records and were first in 11 of the 13 events contested during the meet.

The 200 medley relay team started off the day with a meet record as the foursome of sophomore Emily Andelson, senior Brittany Beauchan, sophomore Stephanie Christofferson and freshman Kathryn Murphy swam 1:43.88.

Frosh Lauren Baker then won the 1000 free in a time of 10:13.24 as the Bruins took the top three spots in the event. Teammate Ting Quah touched first in the 200 free with a solid time of 1:51.94 in another event that the Bruins placed first through third.

Newcomer Cynthia Fascella swam 23.63 in the 50 free, senior Sam Vanden Berge swam 4:26.72 in the 400 IM, and junior Bianca Casciari swam 56.77 in the 100 fly.

Senior Lauren Hall broke the meet record in the 500 free in a time of 4:52.83. Beauchan then posted a meet record in the 100 breast with a winning time of 1:02.28. The 400 free relay capped off the meet with a meet record swim of 3:28.04 behind Quah, senior Alex Sullivan, Fascella and Murphy.

The divers also helped the Bruins to victory as they swept both 1M and 3M. Senior Karina Silva had a big meet as she posted NCAA Zone E qualifiers and wins on both springboard events (1M-278.10/3M-294.38). Senior Laura Winn was second on 1M (237.15) and third on 3M with a season-best score (259.05). Frosh Haley McNamara was third on 1M (237.15) and second on three-meter with a season-best score of 270.90.

UCLA will take a break from dual meet action until mid-November when they host Arizona State (11/12) and Arizona (11/13). Meanwhile, the divers will head to USC November 5-6 for the Trojan Diving Invitational.
