FINA Announces Task Force to Investigate Fran Crippen’s Death

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 28. IN a meeting held today, the FINA Executive decided to create a Task Force composed by highly reputed international experts, who will investigate the causes and circumstances of the tragic loss of open water swimmer Fran Crippen (USA), on October 23, 2010, in the last leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup in Fujairah (UAE).

This Task Force, whose goal is to guarantee clearness with regard to this tragedy, will be composed by:
– One expert of a recognised International Life Saving organisation;
– One expert in Cardiology and Sports Medicine
(specifically in "sudden death" cases);
– Two experts appointed by US Aquatics/USA Swimming;
– One expert in law (FINA).

The FINA representative is Mr. Gunnar Werner, acting President of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and FINA Honorary Member, who already started FINA's investigation on this case following the conclusion of the race in Fujairah.
