Radford vs. Marshall

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia, October 15. A first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay wasn't enough as the Radford swimming and diving team fell to Marshall, 154-83, Friday at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.

Despite the loss, the Highlanders recorded 16 top-three finishes in 11 separate events, including top performances from five newcomers.

Sophomore Rebecca Moyer (Virginia Beach, Va. /Salem High School ) charted a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with time of 5:31.77, followed by Kathryn Ruch (Midlothian, Va./Cosby High School ) in third at 5:42.00.

Along with being a member of the Highlanders' first-place relay squad, sophomore Emily Turner (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Technical High School ) finished second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:46.01.

Freshman Haley Schweitzer (Chesapeake, Va. /Great Bridge High School ) recorded second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke coming in at 2:14.41 and 2:37.29, respectively.

Junior Katie Shaffer (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes High School ) recorded 233.55 points to place second on the three-meter board, while freshman Skye Hickling (Midlothian, Va. /Cosby High School ) and Alex Poletti (Afton, Va. /Western Albemarle High School ) both charted a season-best of 169.05 and 165.00, respectively.

The Highlanders will be back in action Saturday for Virginia Tech's dual meet in Christiansburg, Va. at 9 a.m.
