Trio of FINA World Masters Records Fall at Colonies Zone Long Course Meet -- September 7, 2010

Updated September 7 with addition of Jerry Frentsos world record.

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, September 6. A trio of FINA World Masters relay records took a tumble at the Colonies Zone Long Course Meet held Aug. 21-22.

The foursome of Beth Schreiner (69), Laura Walker (73), Johnnie Detrick (75) and Betsy Durrant (69), representing Virginia Masters, shot down the FINA World Masters records in the women's 280-319 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Detrick, Walker, Schreiner and Durrant clocked a time of 6:07.55 in the 400 free relay, taking down the former record of 6:45.18 set by Big S Yokohama in June in Japan. Detrick, Walker, Schreiner and Durrant posted a time of 13:43.35 in the 800 free relay, lowering the 14:58.34 set by the Spencer Swim Team from Great Britain in June.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old Jerry Frentsos smashed his FINA Masters world record in the men's 45-49 200 IM. He clocked a time of 2:14.90, which beat his previous record of 2:15.59 set in July of this year.
