RIZHAO, China, September 3. THE last night of action at the Chinese Long Course Nationals featured the fastest men's 1500 free in the world this year.
Sun Yang demolished the fastest time in the world this year in the men's 1500 free with a scorching-fast time of 14:47.46. That time surpassed Ryan Cochrane's 14:49.47 at Pan Pacs. Those two are the only swimmers to have cleared 14:50 this year, while only five other swimmers have beaten 15:00 in 2010. Sun had yet to crack the top 25 this year in the event. Dai Jun took second in 15:09.21, off his 11th-ranked 15:06.17 from April. Zu Lijun earned third in 15:11.02.
Jiao Liaoyang jumped into 11th in the world rankings in the women's 50 fly with a winning time of 26.32. Lu Ying finished second in 26.45 to move to 18th, while Ling Shuyuan placed third overall in 26.70.
Ye Siwen posted a swift time to win the women's 200 IM in 2:10.87. She fell just short of her sixth-ranked season-best 2:10.32 set back in April. Wang Qun touched second in 2:12.03, off her 11th-ranked season best of 2:11.26 also from April. Zheng Rongrong finished third in 2:12.25 to move to 17th in the world rankings.
Huang Chaosheng won the men's 200 breast in 2:13.06, while Xue Ruipeng touched second in 2:13.43. Xie Zhi wound up third in 2:13.64 in an exciting finish.
Cheng Feiyi topped the men's 50 back in 25.47, while Sun Xiaolei took second in 25.50. Zhang Yu placed third in 25.91.
Beijing won the men's 400 medley relay in 3:40.54, while Shanghai and Navy took second and third with unreported times.
Special thanks to Christopher Chow for providing results.

September 4, 2010 Shortchange, I will see if I can get them for you, it may take a day or two. He definitely was faster the back half... Submitted by: Globalswim
September 4, 2010 Globalswim.
If you could get the mile splits-- even his 400/800 -- that would be great plus any relay leadoffs would also be quite helpful.
Just post 'em in this space.
Thx.

September 5, 2010 Floalswim: I'm happy to inform you thAt Chairman Mao has just RISEN from the dead and posted Mr. Yang's full mile splits.

Now hopefully that other link you posted will have full results, prelims/finals and relay splits too.

September 5, 2010 Globalswim: the first link does not have any swimming results...it's all about motorboat racing, women's at that from what I can see.
Happen to have a link that shows the meet results aside from the men's mile splits? Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 5, 2010 Global: just went back and checked again and I apologize, you were right.on!
Results --at least Top 8 -- are all there. Excellent. I notice some girl went 1:58.84 leading off the winning 800 free relay. Happen to know her name?
I don't have time now but I'll look mas closely a bit later and hopefully they'll have prelim times too.
Thx again. Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 5, 2010 Tim:
I misread the name @ the bottom of your postings and realize it is/was YOu and NOT globalswim who gave the links to PRC Nationals.
Good job.
Thx.

September 5, 2010 Tim,
Since the e-mail you have attached to your account is coming up as false, I will reply here. First, no cussing. I deleted the comment in which you used vulgarity. If you continue to do so, we will ban your account.
Second, Christopher Chow is a volunteer. He provides us information to help us get the best coverage of swimming from around the world here. Without people like Christopher, we'd have a tough time keeping our coverage at the level it has been at throughout the decades we've been in existence. Submitted by: Jason Marsteller
September 5, 2010 @Slickwillie: The lead off girl's name is Liu Jing, and she is from Beijing (no rhyme intended here)...glad that the splits were found, it's hard to decipher Chinese for sure! Submitted by: Globalswim
September 5, 2010 Jason,
I agree that some words I used is not proper. Such as the single word in the post deleted, and I should have said "I believe it is Mr Chow's job to do what you asked".
However I have long noticed that, on this site, there is no monitor or screening on the personal attacks, unfounded accusation and disrespectful treatment to some nation's swimmers from some readers. Just to give you a few examples, http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/22394.asp and http://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/lane9/news/24958.asp.
BTW your judgement that my email account is false is false. FYI, there is some problem with the account recently, caused by emails received simultaneously from several mailing lists.

September 5, 2010 By my memory, here is my post got deleted with some vulgar word replaced with "nonsense" in the end:
@Slickwillie: You are welcome. It is Will not me who first found the link. Should thank him first. The girl you asked about is Jing Liu, who helped her team to catch 4x200m gold in Rome last year.
I am a little curious about why you guys care about the results. Hope you are not those who barely know anything but have their mouths full of nonsense. Submitted by:

September 5, 2010 Globalswim: thx again.
Reason I need/care about time(s) is because they may mskes my all-time world performances' list and indeed 1:58.8 makes the cut of sub 1:59.0 (in the upper 1500s!!!).at i I am
I could also ask about men'sand women's medley relay leadoffs but frankly I have so many 100 back performances 4 both sexes sub 1:01.4/55.3 that ifI am missing a time or two I'll never tell and I rather doubt anyone else will either!
Having sid that if you could look @ women's 400 MR and see if thre are any sub 1:01.4s and ditto with women's 400 FR (Sub 54.7s) and let me know that would be most helpful in keeping the list as accurate as possible.
Thx.

Me thnks Ms. Jing needs a beter suit!
Last year @ the National Games in Jinan she went a pr 1:56.33 leading off a relay.
1:58.84 here?
Maybe she forgot to put that "special sauce" on her chow mein? Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 5, 2010 Liu Jing had a much faster time of 1:57.95 which placed her third in the individual event at these Nationals.
Comparing these times, her case may not be any different from that of Dana Vollmer, who did 1:55.29 in 2009 and 1:56.93 this year. Submitted by: chris
September 5, 2010 @Slickwillie: Glad to help. There was only one sub-1:01.4 Relay backstroker, and that was Zhou Yanxin, with a 1:01.27 (I don't recall seeing anything else that stood out). There were no sub-55 Free Relay leadoffs...One thing to keep in mind regarding Jing being slower here (and all Chinese swimmers in that regard) is that the National Games (different from their Nationals) is like the Olympics x 10 to the Chinese. Therefore, they are absolutely going to be their very best for that, as it's more about pride and also who can retire knowing they will have a key to the city for the rest of their lives...The next National Games is 2013, I fully expect the Chinese to be faster THERE than they will be in London. Haha, don't know about the "special sauce", but I can tell you they were drug testing at the meet in full force (if that means anything). Submitted by: Globalswim
September 6, 2010 Global: to the rescue again
Thx.
Turns out the performanves' cut (all 1959 and counting!) is 1:01.30 so she snuk in under the wire but a time is a time is a time I always say.
Her pr incidentally is 59.40 from the semis of last year's National Games and she did a 59.50 leding off a relay there too.
I at first wondered y I didn't have her w/a finals time from that meet but then I remembered tey had sohme kind of odd system whereby not all qualifiers for finals swam 'em, they selected only certain people to go Final 8, so maybe that's the case or was the case with her.
And you're rite abou the National Games being their Olympcis in many cases.
Look @ what Hui Qi(Qi Hui?) did in 200 breast/IM there last year as evidence.
Well...far be it from me to tell them how to run teir rairoad or swimming program but one would think they'd want to make the biggest splash on the world's biggest stage (the annual TYR meet @ Mission!!!) but different strokes for different strokes.
I would also wager a few coin of the realm that they'll go bonkers in November @ Asian Games @ home...even though it's out of season they'll be ready to swim fast... Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 6, 2010 Haha, you certainly can bank on them being ready for that, LOTS of pride as well with that meet! Submitted by: Globalswim
September 6, 2010 The link (www.shuiyunhui.com) I provided missed out all the heat results after day 3. If you looked carefully, men's 50m fly result was gone missing and men's 200m fly results was mis-linked to men's 400m IM final results. I guess the organizer does not like doing the uploading work.
Btw, Qi is last name and Hui is first name. It's a heartbreaking experience for her to get poor results in 3 Olympics. 2000: 4th, 2004: 6th and 2008: not in the final. Submitted by: Will
September 6, 2010 You also have to remember that it's likely that only the kids not going to the Asian Games would be fully tapered for this meet. The Asian Games are in Guangzhou this November, so you can bet that's the meet they're targeting. Submitted by: jjswim
September 6, 2010 Will:
Glad you brought up point about the link as now I'll go back, see if I can find prelims from whtever days are up, and incorporate any times that make cut into list.
Yes, I have changed -- well originally I had her aas Hui Qi and then I think on Nick Thierry's list he had it reversed so I changed it a while back too, but have since gone back to original version.
Maybe she can culminate her career w/a win on home turf next year (Worlds) and then double up @ London.
Time will tell.
Do the Chinese hold regional competitions analogous to our "Grand Prix" series? Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 6, 2010 We care about the results here because we're fans of the sport worldwide and want to see where our favorites stack up against the best in the world.
Which is rather hard when you can't get accurate data on who should be on the Top 25 lists given verified performances for the year.

September 6, 2010 @ the risk of being PERMANENTLY banned forever and a day from blogging here becauseI am about to promote Brand X, I suggestfor latest world rankings on a yearly and all-time basis go to swimnews.com and/or the fina site -- altough swiimnews basically supplies FINA with the data so they're one and same.
Nick Thierry -- guy wo does swimnews.com's rankings -- is first-class all the way and his site is updated daily during season and after all big meets so you always have latest "dope" if you'll pardon the phrase from him.
Even Chinese times!
And as we all know, that info is harder to come by than Michael Phelps' annual gross income!!! Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 6, 2010 @SW-regarding your regional competition question: they do have Provincial meets, which is similar to Nationals, just on a smaller scale (only 4 days, kinda like Sectionals). The Chinese National team swimmers get the opportunity to go abroad and get a little more exposure, but even with that the Chinese simply don't race as much as we do in the U.S... Submitted by: Globalswim
September 6, 2010 Except in this case, the swimnews.com crew was expressing a lot of frustration because they were not getting good data out of China for the first several days of the meet. Excuse given on China's end was that the English language sports reporter from the state news bureau that usually writes their swimming articles had been assigned to cover other sports while the meet was going on. Submitted by: selkie
September 6, 2010 Could be true, there were like 8 different sports events going on in Rhizao at the same time... Submitted by: Globalswim
September 7, 2010 @slickwillie32
China does not have GP series. There are 3 Nationals every year in Apr-May, Aug-Sept and Nov-Dec. There is also a regional meet between Jan and Feb and it is divided into South and North meets. South meet is for the Southern provinces while North meet is mostly for the Norhtern provinces. There are also big meets every four years in China such as well-known National Games, City Games and Natioanl University Games. Each province also holds provincial games every four year.
@Globalswim
It is Chinese water games in Rizhao so it involves water sports. The sports like diving, water polo, schronized swimming, Canoeing, rowing and water-skiing are included. Chinese swimming association just merges the swimming event in the water games and September Nationals. Submitted by: will
September 8, 2010 @Will-you are correct on the Games, I was there actually! The November/December Nationals however is not really a "Nationals", just a winter championship....do you coach in China? Submitted by: Globalswim
September 8, 2010 No, I don't coach or swim. According to Chinese swimming association website, the fullname for their year-end competition is called "winter national championships" so I thought it is one of the Nationals. In 2005, it was still a short-course meet but after that, it switched to a normal long-course meet. I still remembered there were a lot of fine SC results set in that championships which was held after the Nanjing National Games. However, the meet was cancelled last year. Submitted by: will
September 8, 2010 @Will- gotcha! They are looking to perhaps cancel that December meet this year as well, as it's one week before/after SC World Champs...But as it's China, that decision probably won't be made till a week before! Submitted by: Globalswim

September 8, 2010 I JUST HOPE FOR THE SAKE OF SANITY AND WORLD RANKINGS THE CHINESE DON'T HOLD ANY MAS LCM MEETS SAVE FOR THE ASIAN GAMES 'TWEEN NOW AND 12/31/10!
IF YOI HAVE ANY "PULL" W/THE FEDERATON BRASS GIVE 'EM THE WORD, WILL YA', PLEASE?
THX. Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 8, 2010 Haha, there is no "pull" with the Federation, they do what they want! But there shouldn't be any more LCM meets in China in December (unless they DO decide to go ahead with that December Championship) Submitted by: Globalswim
