IRVINE, California, August 21. AUSTRALIA's Emily Seebohm used lane seven to her advantage as she touched out world-record holder Ariana Kukors of the USA in the women's 200 IM at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Kukors, who was in lane four, was not challenged by anyone around her, and Seebohm was able to use that to her advantage with a meet record 2:09.93. That swim erased the 2:10.11 set by Whitney Myers back in 2006, and gave Australia its first 200 IM win at Pan Pacs since Eli Overton won in 1995 with a 2:14.68. Seebohm also took the top spot in the world rankings, finishing ahead of compatriot Stephanie Rice (2:10.07) who shut down her season with impending shoulder surgery.

Kukors finished second overall in 2:10.25 to move to fifth in the world, while teammate Caitlin Leverenz placed third in 2:11.21 to complete the podium.

Canada's Julia Wilkinson lowered her national record with a fourth-place 2:11.32. That swim beat her 2008 mark of 2:12.03, while Australia's Alicia Coutts earned fifth in 2:11.88. Canada's Erica Morningstar (2:12.35), New Zealand's Natalie Wiegersma (2:14.36) and Japan's Izumi Kato (2:14.51) also swam in the championship heat.

USA's Elizabeth Pelton (2:12.90) and Morgan Scroggy (2:13.08) went 1-2 in the B final. Both finished off their season bests as Pelton had a 2:12.58 at the U.S. Nationals, and Scroggy clocked a 2:11.25 at Nationals as well.
