Pan Pacific Championships: Ryan Cochrane Captures 800 Free Title – Coverage Sponsored by TYR

IRVINE, California, August 21. CANADA's Ryan Cochrane made it two straight wins for his country in the men's 800 free at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Cochrane finished the distance race with a winning time of 7:48.71, defending Andrew Hurd's title from 2006 when he won in 7:55.88. Cochrane moved to second in the world with the time as Sebastien Rouault's 7:48.28 from the European Championships withstood the challenge. The win is Cochrane's second as he swept the distance events with a win in the 1500 free as well. Cochrane took silver in the 400 free to give himself three medals from this meet.

USA's Chad La Tourette finished second overall in 7:51.62 to move to fourth in the world, while Japan's Takeshi Matsuda placed third in 7:51.87 to take fifth in the world rankings.

Australia's Robert Hurley (7:52.71), USA's Peter Vanderkaay (7:54.10), USA's Charlie Houchin (7:55.98), Japan's Junpei Higashi (7:58.73) and USA's Arthur Frayler (7:59.77) completed the top eight all under 8:00.
