IRVINE, California, August 20. NO one could touch Michael Phelps in the men's 100 fly at the Pan Pacific Championships, and yet he still looked unhappy after winning the event this year.

Phelps clocked a convincing win with a time of 50.86, to give the U.S. it's third straight win in the event at Pan Pacs, following up on Ian Crocker's back-to-back wins in 2002 (52.45) and 2006 (51.47). Phelps also crushed Crocker's meet record set in 2006, but fell short of his top time this year of 50.65 set at U.S. Nationals. That fact seemed to upset Phelps at the finish.

Teammate Tyler McGill won silver with a strong time of 51.85, just missing his second-ranked season best of 51.69 set during prelims. Japan's Takuro Fujii claimed bronze with a 52.12.

Japan's Masayuki Kishida (52.16), Australia's Geoff Huegill (52.32), Australia's Chris Wright (52.40), China's Wu Peng (52.61) and Papua New Guinea's Ryan Pini (52.94) also swam in the championship finale.

USA's Tim Phillips captured the B final title in 52.21. That swim improved his personal best from prelims of 52.25 and tied him for 10th in the world heading into the championship heat.
