IRVINE, California, August 19. THE U.S. closed a dominant night of swimming with its seventh title of the evening in the men's 800 free relay at the Pan Pacific Championships.

Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay, Ricky Berens and Ryan Lochte won the distance relay in a meet record of 7:03.84. That swim cleared the 7:05.28 set by the U.S. back in 2006. Lochte anchored a 1:45.27.

Japan's Takeshi Matsuda, Yuki Kobori, Yoshihiro Okumura and Sho Uchida took second in 7:11.01, while Australia's Thomas Fraser-Holmes, Nicholas Ffrost, Kenrick Monk and Leith Brodie placed third in 7:11.05.

Canada (7:12.66), Brazil (7:27.74) and Korea (7:32.99) also fielded relay squads.
