IRVINE, California, August 18. BRAZIL's Cesar Cielo charted the fastest time in the world in the men's 50 fly at the Pan Pacific Championships. Cielo blazed the A final with a sterling time of 23.03, clearing Rafael Munoz's clocked during the European Championships last week.

Cielo also moved up to 10th in the all-time list, tying Duje Draganja and just missing becoming just the 10th person to clear the 23-second mark. Brazil wound up going 1-2 in the event as Nicholas Santos took second in 23.33. That swim moved him up to fifth in the world, while South Africa's Roland Schoeman touched third in 23.39 for sixth in the world.

Australia's Geoff Huegill (23.42), USA's Cullen Jones (23.50), Japan's Masayuki Kishida (23.77), USA's Tim Phillips (23.92) and Australia's Mitchell Patterson (23.94) claimed the rest of the A final finishes.
