USMS Long Course Nationals: Ten FINA Masters World Records Fall During Meet

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, August 13. A total of 10 FINA Masters World Records fell during the U.S. Masters Swimming Long Course National Championships this past week held in Puerto Rico.

Carolyn Boak terrorized the women's 65-69 world record books. First, she lowered the 200 free world record with a 2:39.05. That performance far surpassed the previous mark of 2:42.26 set by Christel Schulz back in 2008. Boak also downed the 50 free world standard in her age division with a 31.84, shooting down another Schulz record of 32.52 set in 2005. Her third world record occurred in the 200 IM with a 3:06.10. That time beat a third Schulz standard of 3:08.85 set in 2006. A fourth record went down in the 100 fly with a 1:26.17, eclipsing Yoshiko Osaki's 2003 standard of 1:27.73. Number five went up on the board in the 200 fly with a 3:21.42, crushing the record held by both Daniela Barnea and Hannelore Rose of 3:29.68.

Richard Abrahams shot down a few world records in the men's 65-69 division. He clocked a 27.09 in the 50 free to wipe out Jeff Farrell's 2002 standard of 27.15. He then turned in a 1:07.34 in the 100 fly to clear the 1:07.78 set by Josep Claret in 2009. He returned in the 100 free with a 1:00.38 for a third world record. He dipped under David Quiggin's 2009 mark of 1:01.05.

Laura Val touched in 33.75 in the women's 55-59 50 back to lower her world record in the event of 33.90 set last year.

Matt Haupt posted a 2:03.76 in the men's 30-34 200 fly, lowering the world record of 2:03.85 set by Bobby Patten way back in 1995.
