IRVINE, California, August 6. CALIFORNIA's Nathan Adrian served notice that he is the undisputed king of sprint in the U.S. with a victory in the 100 free to back up his 50 free triumph last night at the U.S. Long Course Nationals. Adrian closed out the two-lap free with a 48.41 to jump into second in the world. Only Alain Bernard has been faster with a 48.32 from the French Nationals in April.

Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte put together a strong back half to earn second-place honors with a 48.83 to move into 11th in the world. Rose Bowl's Jason Lezak and Longhorn's Garrett Weber-Gale pocketed the final two Pan Pacific relay spots by tying for third with matching 48.96s. Lezak was faster this morning with a 13th-ranked 48.92 in prelims.

Longhorn's Dave Walters (49.09), New South's Scot Robison (49.36), SwimMAC's Nick Brunelli (49.49) and Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers (49.49) finished fifth through eighth in the finale.

SwimMAC's Cullen Jones won the B final with a time of 49.51, cutting down from his preliminary effort of 49.86. SwimMAC's Josh Schneider, who was scheduled to compete in the B final, broke his hand on the finish of the preliminary swim and withdrew from tonight's event.
