IRVINE, California, August 3. TUCSON Ford's Mike Alexandrov has certainly enjoyed competing as a U.S. Sports Citizen. A dual citizen of Bulgaria and the United States, up until last year Alexandrov had represented Bulgaria internationally.

Last year, however, Alexandrov changed his sports citizenship to the U.S. and has won the past two 100 breast national titles. He claimed the short course yard crown in December of last year with a 52.07, while putting up a 1:00.26 this evening to surface triumphant. Prior to making his sports citizenship change, he still won the U.S. short course national title with a 51.82 in 2008.

His time this evening pushed him to fourth in the world behind only Ryo Tateishi (59.84), Kosuke Kitajima (59.91) and Brenton Rickard (1:00.19) – all who will be opponents at the Pan Pacific Championships here in Irvine at the end of the month. His 1:00.26 also lowered his previous personal best of 1:00.57.

Mark Gangloff raced into second with a 1:00.42 to grab sixth overall in the world, while Longhorn's Eric Shanteau also broke 1:01 with a third-place 1:00.75. That time bumped Shanteau into the top 15, while Tucson Ford's Marcus Titus clocked a fourth-place 1:00.93 for a top 15 time of his own.

The fourth-place finisher in the 100 breast at last summer's World Championships, Shanteau's finish was a surprise and puts pressure on his 200 breast and 200 individual medley in terms of qualifying for the Pan Pacific Champs. Additionally, the United States is not strong in the 100 breast at the moment and the event begs for improvement from a depth standpoint.

NBAC's Scott Spann (1:01.69), Nashville's Curtis Lovelace (1:01.72), Tucson Ford's Clark Burckle (1:01.85) and Indiana's Kevin Swander (1:01.90) all cleared 1:02 to complete the A final field.
