USA Women’s Water Polo National Team Announces Travel Roster For FINA World Cup

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California, July 22. THE USA Women's Senior National Team and Head Coach Adam Krikorian have announced the travel roster for the 2010 FINA World Cup scheduled for August 17-22 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Coming off a Gold Medal at the FINA World League Super Final earlier this month Team USA will be looking for their first World Cup title since 1979. The United States will bring 14 athletes on a trip that includes a pre-World Cup tournament in Sydney, Australia. Only 13 athletes will be selected for the World Cup event.

Three-time Olympian and Super Final MVP Brenda Villa (Commerce, CA/Commerce) leads the team into action flanked by Super Final all-tournament team members goalie Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, MI/NYAC) and center Kami Craig (Santa Barbara, CA/Santa Barbara WPF).

Fellow 2008 Olympian Elsie Windes (Portland, OR/Tulatin Hills WP) and 2004 Olympic Medalist Kelly Rulon (Point Loma, CA/NYAC) round out the veterans. Returning from the World League group is Annika Dries (Laguna Beach, CA/SET), Melissa Seidemann (Walnut Creek, CA/Stanford), Lolo Silver (Long Beach, CA/NYAC), Emily Feher (Santa Ana, CA/NYAC), Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Diablo), and Courtney Mathewson (Anaheim Hills, CA/NYAC).

The remainder of the group includes Juliet Moss (San Jose, CA/SJ Splash), Kiley Neushul (Goleta, CA/Santa Barbara WPF), and Anne Belden (Newport Beach, CA/Bruin).

Veterans Heather Petri (Orinda, CA/NYAC), Lauren Wenger (Long Beach, CA/NYAC), and Jessica Steffens (Danville, CA/NYAC) will not travel as they recover from injury.

Team USA will open play with Russia on August 17, the red, white, and blue claimed fourth place at the last World Cup in Tianjin, China back in 2006.
