Australian Short Course Championships: Marieke Guehrer Downs Australian All-Comers Record

BRISBANE, Australia, July 18. THE final day of swimming at the Australian Short Course Championships produced one more Australian All-Comers record.

Marieke Guehrer and Emily Seebohm cleared the Australian All-Comers record in the women's 50 back with Guehrer finishing on top, 26.81 to 26.82, in an exciting finish. Seebohm held the previous record with a 26.87 set last year. Rachel Goh wound up third in 27.15.

Leisel Jones cruised to victory in the women's 200 breast with a 2:18.86, while Tessa Wallace touched second in 2:21.48. Rebecca Kamp completed the podium with a third-place effort of 2:22.45. Felicity Galvez hit the wall in 56.34 to win the women's 100 fly, while Madeline Groves took second in 58.94. Samantha Hamill placed third in 59.02.

Yolane Kukla, 14, continued her remarkable rise through the Aussie ranks with a 24.14 to win the women's 50 free. Guehrer finished second in 24.67, while Emma McKeon took third in 24.73. Bronte Barratt claimed the women's 200 free in 1:54.83, while Blair Evans (1:55.06) and Kylie Palmer (1:55.55) rounded out the top three.

Matthew Abood topped the men's 100 free in 47.07, while Kyle Richardson finished second in 47.57. Tommaso D'Orsogna claimed third overall in 47.63. Ashley Delaney won the men's 200 back in 1:52.25, while Braiden Camm took second in 1:53.97. Mitch Larkin snagged third in 1:54.63.

Kenneth To earned the men's 100 IM title in 52.39, while D'Orsogna snared his second podium of the night with a second-place 53.06. John Goo snatched third-place honors with a 54.54. Brenton Rickard garnered the men's 50 breast crown in 27.26, while Christian Sprenger placed second in 27.40. Brad Morrison touched third in 27.76.

Chris Wright eased through the men's 200 fly with a 1:51.74, closing the distance on his Australian record of 1:51.11 set last year. Jayden Hadler finished second in 1:53.10, while Lachlan Staples took third overall in 1:55.14.

Robert Hurley won the distance event for the day with a 14:41.80 in the men's 1500 free. Thomas Fraser-Holmes placed second in 14:53.81, while Wally Eggleton took third in 14:58.61.

In multi-disability events, Teneal Hougthon (32.36) and Kayla Clarke (33.68) were listed first in the women's 50 back. Andrew Pasterfield was listed first in the men's 50 back with a 27.72. Clarke returned in the women's 100 fly with a first-listed time of 1:10.09, while Peter Leek was listed first in the men's 100 fly with a 59.91.
