USA Swimming Sectionals, Athens: Morgan Scroggy Shines in Day Two

ATHENS, Georgia, July 16. THE second night of long course meter action at the USA Swimming Sectionals in Athens featured a hometown swimmer putting up a world-class time on the scoreboard.

Athens Bulldog Morgan Scroggy ripped off a swift time of 1:58.54 to win the women's 200 free. That effort leapfrogged her to 21st in the world rankings, improving from her 22nd-ranked season best of 1:58.56 set in Barcelona on the Mare Nostrum circuit. Teammate Chelsea Nauta finished second overall in 2:00.38, while Megan Romano took third in 2:01.07.

North Carolina's Evan Reed won the men's 200 free in 1:52.21, touching out SwimAtlanta's Matt Bartlett (1:52.22) and SwimMAC's J.T. Stilley (1:52.72) for the title.

Tennessee's Jenny Connolly topped the women's 100 back in 1:01.76, while Athens Bulldog Lauren English finished second in 1:01.92. Rockwood's Caroline Rodriguez wound up third overall in 1:03.08. Notably, Scroggy won the B final in 1:02.45.

Kyle Owens claimed the men's 100 back title in 55.42, while Tyler McGill earned second in 55.83. Saint Petersburg's Tommy Wyher completed the top three in 55.99.

Swim Atlanta's Jana Mangimelli cruised to victory in the women's 400 IM with a 4:45.76, while Athens Bulldog Lauren Cartwright touched second in 4:57.02. Baylor's Savannah Napier grabbed third in 4:58.00.

Athens Bulldog Bill Creger hit the wall in 4:22.28 to win the men's 400 IM, while Poseidon's Tyler Harris took second in 4:25.13. Rays' Alec Cohen picked up third with a 4:31.48.
