USA Men Victorious Over China on Day Two of FINA Water Polo World League Super Final

NIS, Serbia, July 14. THE USA Men's National Team made it back-to-back wins with an 11-5 defeat of China on day two of the FINA World League Super Final in Serbia.

Behind two goals each from Tim Hutten (Seal Beach, CA/Newport WPF) and Shea Buckner (Villa Park, CA/NYAC) the United States moved to 2-0 with Montenegro on the schedule tomorrow to round out group play.

The two teams were evenly matched to start with the United States holding just a 3-2 lead after the first. In the second quarter they opened things up with three unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead at halftime. The second half was more of the same as the United States built an 8-3 lead after the third quarter and then went on for the 11-5 win for the match. Despite the 11 goals the United States went just 1-5 on power plays and 1-2 on penalty shots.

Merrill Moses (Palos Verdes, CA/NYAC) and Andy Stevens (Villa Park, CA/NYAC) teamed up in the cage with Moses stopping 10 shots and Stevens 11.

It was a balanced scoring attack with nine different players scoring goals for Team USA in the win. "We did what we had to do to win, even though it was sloppy at times," said Head Coach Terry Schroeder. On Thursday Team USA meets up with Montenegro. The two squads recently completed a three game series in Southern California with each team winning a match and tying once.
