Lithuanian Long Course Nationals: Aiste Dobrovolskaite Sets National Record

ALYTUS, Lithuania, July 1. ONE national record fell during the first day of action at the Lithuanian Long Course Nationals meet held in Alytus this weekend.

Aiste Dobrovolskaite lowered her national record in the women's 100 fly with a time of 1:02.29. That performance eclipsed her previous mark of 1:02.60 set last year at the World Championships in Rome. Giedre Grigonyte took second in 1:04.47, while Viltaute Paplauskaite placed third in 1:04.47.

Dobrovolskaite doubled up by touching out Jurate Deerbinskaite and Kristina Kontrimaite in the women's 200 free. Dobrovolskaite won in 2:06.41, while Deerbinskaite (2:06.64) and Kontrimaite (2:06.86) also cleared 2:07 in the finale.

In another close finish, Darunas Jankauskas won the men's 200 free in 1:57.21, while Simas Piaukas (1:57.38) and Simonas Bilis (1:57.92) completed the top three in the event. Vyutautas Janusaitis took home the men's 100 fly in 54.87, while Paulius Viktoravieius finished second in 55.42. Tadas Duokinas garnered third in 55.83.

Rugile Mileisyte topped the women's 50 back in 30.00, just a half second back of her national record of 29.58 from last year. Inga Dukyte took second in 31.38, while Ugne Maputaityte finished third in 32.45. Matas Andriekus followed in the men's 50 back with a winning 27.25. Justinas Bilis finished just behind with a 27.27, while Mindaugas Sadauskas earned third in 27.52.

Raminta Dvariokyte snatched the women's 200 breast title in 2:37.28, while Urte Kazakevieiute, who owns the national record with a 2:28.13 from 2009, took second in 2:37.52. Jekaterina Kiseliova posted a third-place effort of 2:37.90. Giedrius Titenis won the men's 200 breast crown in a time well back of his national record of 2:07.80 from a year ago. Tonight, he won in 2:19.65, while Igor Kozlovskij pocketed second in 2:21.78. Simas Jaraounas wound up third in 2:22.69.

Laura Dobrovolskaite won the women's 400 IM in 5:20.02, while Eveline Rudyte (5:34.86) and Vikte Labanauskaite (5:37.47) finished second and third. Danas Rapoys (4:51.51), Emilis Laupikas (5:03.22) and Marius Mikalauskas (5:09.90) topped the men's 400 IM podium.
