NC State Swimming Programs Add Two More for 2010-11

RALEIGH, North Carolina, June 30. NC State head swimming and diving coach Brooks Teal announced today the signing of Julianna Prim and Andrew Tollefson to the Wolfpack program. Prim will serve as a sophomore on the women's swimming roster during the 2010-11 campaign, while Tollefson will compete for the men's team as a freshman.

"We are very excited to add both Julianna and Andrew to our program,"
said Teal. "Both are accomplished athletes that will add depth to our team and help us continue to move forward next season. They both will be able to contribute immediately for us."

Prim, a native of Yadkinville, N.C., joins the Wolfpack after competing at Pfieffer College during the past school year where she was an All-America selection in the 200 butterfly, set 11 school records and was named both team MVP and school indoor female athlete of the year. In the classroom Prim posted a 4.0 GPA.

A graduate of Starmount High, Prim earned All-America and Academic All-America honors and was named swimming MVP four times. She collected four state championships, was valedictorian of her class and was the school's scholastic athlete of the year in 2008-09. A standout athlete, she was a school MVP in both basketball and track as well.

On the club circuit Prim competes with the North Piedmont Aquatic Club, having won the YMCA national championship in the 200-meter butterfly in 2007.

Tollefson, out of Potomac, Md., will arrive in Raleigh after a distinguished career with the Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club under coach Scott Vekeman where he set the team record in the 200 breaststroke. He will add strength to an already deep breaststroke and individual medley corps, having posted career-best times of 57.61 (100 breaststroke),
2:05.03 (200 breaststroke), 1:54.43 (200 individual medley) and 4:05.00 (400 individual medley).

A junior national qualifier, team record holder in the 200 breaststroke and team MVP at Walter Johnson High School, Tollefson will pursue a degree in political science. He chose NC State over Penn State, Missouri and Louisville.
