Oceania Swimming Championships: Rebecca Kemp Shines for Australia

SAMOA, June 24. THE second night of long course meter finals produced one world-ranked time at the Oceania Swimming Championships.

Australia's Rebecca Kemp dominated the women's 100 breast with a winning time of 1:08.86. That performance jumped Kemp up to 23rd in the world rankings. She now stands fifth in Australia in the event behind Leisel Jones (1:05.79), Samantha Marshall (1:07.45), Sarah Katsoulis (1:07.81) and Leiston Pickette (1:08.72), New Zealand's Grace Francis finished a distant second in 1:12.07, while Guam's Pilar Shimizu garnered third in 1:18.82.

Australia's Whitney Ireland won the women's 50 back in 29.70, while New Zealand's Laura Quilter placed second in 29.84. Australia's Jenni O'Neil took third in 29.99. Australia went 1-2 in the men's 50 back with Braiden Camm winning the sprint back in 26.47. Teammate Bobby Jovanovich finished second in 27.11, while Hawaii's Darren Choi touched third in 27.31.

Australia's Amelia Evatt-Davey topped the women's 100 free in 56.16. Teammate Jade Neilsen earned second overall in 57.03, while New Zealand's Hannah Saunders placed third in 57.29. Australia's Luke Kerswell gave his country its fourth straight victory with a 50.64 in the men's 100 free. Teammate James Roberts finished second in 50.75, while New Zealand's Andrew McMillan picked up third in 51.16.

The first non-Aussie win of the night came in the men's 100 breast. New Zealand's Nick Ferrif captured the event title in 1:02.79, while Australia's Jeremy Meyer took second in 1:03.37. Tonga's Amini Fonua completed the top three in 1:03.49.

Australia's Tiffany Papaemanouil won the women's 400 IM in 4:56.19, while New Zealand's Samantha Lucie-Smith (5:02.24) and Hawaii's Summer Harrison (5:12.73) placed second and third. Australia's Mitch Larkin (4:22.17), New Zealand's Steven Kent (4:37.22) and Hawaii's Kacey Johnson (4:37.88) comprised the top three in the men's 400 IM.
