2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving to Be Held in Seattle Area

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, April 21. THE road to London will go through the Pacific Northwest, as Seattle has been selected to host the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving, USA Diving, in conjunction with the United States Olympic Committee, has announced.

The Trials will be held June 18-24, 2012, at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington, located just south of Seattle. More than 100 of the nation's best divers are expected to vie for spots on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team.

Seattle , which also hosted the Trials in 2000, was selected over Indianapolis to host the event.

A committee of five – Debbie Hesse, Laura Wilkinson, Larry McQueary, Steve Foley and Jim Quinlivan – reviewed the bids and made its recommendation to USA Diving's Board of Directors, which approved Federal Way as the host site of the Trials.

"USA Diving received outstanding bids, and we selected two finalists – Seattle and Indianapolis. It was a difficult decision, and we're thrilled to announce that Seattle will host the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving," said Debbie Hesse, President and CEO of USA Diving. "We're delighted to come back to Seattle, and we look forward to a great partnership with the community, fans and sponsors. This could be one of the most exciting and competitive Trials we've had, given the current depth and recent success of our athletes."

USA Diving will partner with the Seattle Sports Commission, the City of Federal Way and King County Parks and Recreation.

"As a region, we are thrilled to participate in the Olympic movement as our athletes prepare for London," said Ralph Morton, Executive Director for the Seattle Sports Commission.

Additionally, AT&T, the official communications sponsor of USA Diving, will create a unique fan experience with the AT&T H20 Zone, which debuted at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Diving.

"As a proud sponsor of USA Diving and the U.S. Olympic Team, AT&T is honored to keep fans connected and provide the support to help these athletes achieve their very best. The AT&T H20 Zone provided an engaging environment for diving fans in 2008, and we hope to make the experience even better in Seattle in 2012," said Jason Simpson, Executive Director – AT&T Corporate Sponsorship.

"The USOC is excited to be partnering with USA Diving, the Seattle Sports Commission, the City of Federal Way and King County Parks and Recreation to bring the thrill of Olympic diving back to the Pacific Northwest," said Mike English, USOC Chief of Sport Performance. "This is an ideal area to showcase what we feel will be a very strong Olympic Team for diving."
