Texas Coach, Eddie Reese, Comments on Iowa State’s Decision to Kill Men’s Swimming

AUSTIN, March 2. Texas Coach Eddie Reese on Iowa State's decision to cut the men's swimming and
diving program:
"It is an extremely unfortunate situation, not only for the Iowa State student-athletes, but also for the Big 12 Conference. I am hoping that it (Iowa State's decision) is not a finalized decision and if I know Iowa State, they will keep fighting for the program.

My only hope is that all schools and their administrators remember the importance of these student-athletes and take action now not to lose
another well-redeemed program like we have with the Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa State's programs. Our student-athletes should always come first in these decisions while also keeping the schools' best
interests at heart."

On the future of the Big 12 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships:
"With the loss of Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa State's programs, as of now we do not have enough teams to maintain our swimming conference, and I have no idea what our next step will be in having a conference
championship. I am an optimist and am still hoping that both Kansas and Iowa State will keep their programs."
