Canadian Paralympic Worlds Swim Team Announced

OTTAWA, Canada, April 12. SWIMMING Canada announces Para-Swimming World Championships Team that will be competing in Eindhoven, Netherlands from August 15th to 21st, 2010.

The 30-member World Championships squad was selected from the performances at the 2010 Para Can-Ams in San Antonio Texas last March.

The team includes 12 Beijing Paralympians including Stephanie Dixon of Victoria, Chelsey Gotell of Antigonish, Valérie Grand'Maison, Anne Polinario of Montreal, Katarina Roxon of Stephanville NF, Darda Sales of London and Amber Thomas of Edmonton.

On the men's side, Paralympians Benoit Huot, Brian Hill of Montreal, Donovan Tildesley of Vancouver, Joe Barker of London and Devin Gotell of Antigonish will also be vying for a spot on the Worlds' podium.

"The 2010 Para-swimming Worlds team is a very good representation of who will have an opportunity to make the 2012 Paralympic Team," said Craig McCord, Swimming Canada's National Coach for Para-swimming. "While we are about 2 years out of the Paralympic Trials, as a first rehearsal for selection, it was very good."

According to McCord, within less than a year, his swimmers have further developed their skills from last summer's World Short Course Championships Trials in Edmonton.

"For these World Championships, the team will be competitive at all levels, veterans through first timers," added McCord. The team will know return to training and will regroup this summer for final staging preparations for the IPC World Championships in Eindhoven.
