COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 28. CALIFORNIA's Nathan Adrian defended his 100 free title with the 11th fastest time ever.

Adrian clocked a 41.50, clearing the pool record of 42.01 he set during prelims. The win gave him his second in a row in the event, setting the junior up to be the first three time winner of the award since fellow Golden Bear Anthony Ervin topped the event from 2000-02. Auburn's Cesar Cielo had the same chance last year, but elected to turn professional immediately after the 2008 meet. Could Adrian follow the same path?

Texas' Jimmy Feigen provided the Longhorns valuable points with a second-place time of 41.91, while Auburn went 3-4 with strong times by Gideon Louw (42.06) and Adam Brown (42.36).

Texas had three other scorers, building its top tally to 404 points. California went two up, and one down to push its second-place total to 393.5 points. Arizona (315), Florida (301) and Stanford (290) comprised the rest of the top five.
