Connecticut High School State Championships

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, March 23. POMPERAUG won the overall open team title at the Connecticut High School State Championships held at Yale this past weekend.

Fairfield Prep's Andrew Golankiewicz set a state record in the 100 back with a 51.01. That performance wiped out the 51.19 set by Danny Diette back in 2001.

Bristol Coop's James Martin topped the 200 free in 1:40.73, then doubled up with a 45.67 in the 100 free.

Ridgefield's Andrew Klutey won the 500 free in 4:35.98, while Torrington's Eric Traub won the 200 IM in 1:52.77. Manchester's Christian Brindamour claimed the 50 free in 21.05, while Greenwich's Michael Dustin topped the 100 fly in 50.07. Amity Regional's Eric Holden won the 100 breast in 57.00.

Pomperaug's Michael Piro, Taylor Callahan, Eric Douglas and Connor McTaggart won the 200 medley relay in 1:36.21. McTaggart, Tyler Hessler, Douglas and Nathan Zabarsky returned in the 200 free relay with a winning time of 1:25.59. Fairfield Prep's Krostof Toth, Tyler Pramer, Golankiewicz and Edward Becker claimed the 400 free relay in 3:07.94.

In diving, Sacred Heart's Stephen Ettiene set a state record in the one-meter with 572.65 points. That beat his previous record of 566.55 from earlier this year.
