USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale: Ryan Lochte Puts on Show

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, March 19. RYAN Lochte, representing Daytona Beach Speed, put on quite the show at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Fort Lauderdale. The meet took place in long course meter format.

Lochte started off with a 1:50.08 to win the men's 200 free. Fernando Santos (1:52.64) and Mexico's Gerardo Banuelos Sandoval (1:53.80) bracketed Lochte in the event. Lochte returned in the men's 100 fly with a 54.79 for the win. Mexico's Pablo Marmolejo Vargas finished second in 56.03, while Snow's Matthew Haupt took third in 56.13.

Lindsay McKnight, 15, touched out Bluefish's Elizabeth Beisel, 2:01.00 to 2:01.04, in the women's 200 free. El Salvador's Pamela Benitez took third in 2:03.32. McKnight doubled up with a 1:11.73 in the women's 100 breast, while Heritage's Melissa Cooper touched second in 1:12.87. Mexico's Adriana Marmolejo Vargas took third in 1:13.83.

Beisel returned in the women's 400 IM with a sectional-record time of 4:39.94. That effort beat her previous mark of 4:42.65 set last year. Lysis Halkides touched second in 4:58.40, while Bluefish's Anna Senko finished third in 5:02.80. Metro's Carlos Omana claimed the men's 400 IM in 4:31.65. Mexico's Miguel Robles Castro (4:34.74) and Mexico's Ezequial Trujillo Aviles (4:36.51) rounded out the top three.

Vlad Polyakov snagged the men's 100 breast title in 1:02.85, while Athens Bulldog Neil Versfeld placed second in 1:03.48. Mexico's David Oliver Mercado finished third in 1:05.57. Metro Aquatic's Ana Anaya claimed the women's 100 fly in 1:02.10. Team Florida's Chelsea Britt, 15, placed just behind in 1:02.67. Mexico's Diana Luna Sanchez placed third in 1:03.15.

In relay action, Team Florida's Lauren Driscoll, Damaris Iriondo, Rebecca Aiello and Fallon Fitzpatrick won the women's 800 free relay in 8:30.65. Pine Crest's Luis Felipe Giraldo, Thomas Veale, Robert Dowd and Gottfried Eisenberger took home the men's 800 free relay in 7:53.35.
