CHOMUTOV, Czech Republic, March 13. TWO Czech records nearly meet their match during the second day of action at the Czech Long Course Championships held in Chomutov. Meanwhile, Jan Sefl grabbed a pair of event titles.
Simona Baumrtova led the second day off with a 29.05 to secure the women's 50 back. She finished just a half-second back of Ilona Hlavackova's 2003 national record of 28.50. Marketa Strakova finished second in 29.37, while Klara Vaclavikova touched third in 29.81.
Martin Verner also missed a national record in the men's 50 back with a 26.45. That effort came up short of his 26.39 set last June. Martin Badura (26.67) and Ondrej Palatka (27.25) finished second and third.
Sefl won the men's 200 free in 1:53.33. Kvetoslav Svoboda (1:53.44) and Denis Gayvoronskiy (1:53.56) placed second and third. Sefl then doubled up with a 2:03.69 in the men's 200 fly. Jakub Nezdoba (2:06.26) and Tomas Balicek (2:07.47) took second and third.
Hana Lefnerova claimed the women's 200 free title in 2:07.40. Hana Kremenova (2:07.52) and Strakova (2:08.17) rounded out the top three. Petra Chocova snatched the women's 100 breast in 1:10.24, while Helena Pikhartova (1:12.02) and Kristyna Kolarova (1:13.04) grabbed second and third. Petr Bartunek won the men's 100 breast in 1:02.65. Jiri Jedlicka (1:04.58) and Jan Kutil (1:05.59) rounded out the podium. Barbora Zavadova (2:16.45), Lenka Lukasova (2:22.44) and Vera Koprivova (2:25.68) topped the women's 200 fly podium.
