Swiss Long Course Championships: Maria Ugolkova Sets Meet Record

GENEVA, Switzerland, March 13. THE third day of swimming at the Swiss Long Course Championships produced a meet record.

Maria Ugolkova set a meet record with a time of 56.58 in the women's 100 free. That time clipped Seraina Prunte's 2009 meet standard of 56.60, and moved Ugolkova within striking distance of Prunte's national record of 56.06 set in 2008. Laura Noccioli (57.69) and Danielle Villars (58.26) finished second and third.

Dominik Meichtry put up a 50.03 in the men's 100 free, just a second off Flori Lang's meet record of 49.03 set a year ago. Daniel Rast (51.65) and Val Mikos (51.74) rounded out the top three.

Simon Rabold won the men's 400 IM in 4:33.52, while Alexandre Liess (4:37.15) and Julien Baillod (4:38.66) finished second and third. Marina Ribi followed with a 4:58.32 in the women's 400 IM for the win. Annick van Westendorp (5:00.57) and Anais De Marchi (5:05.95) placed second and third.

Martin Schweizer snagged the men's 50 breast title in 29.43, while Damien Courtois took second in 29.49. Christian Schneiter earned third in 29.55. Stephanie Spahn then clocked a 33.20 for the women's 50 breast win. Corinne Meier touched second in 33.27, while Franziska Hugli finished third in 33.71.

Lukas Rauftlin beat Jonathan Massacand, 2:04.47 to 2:04.95, for the men's 200 back title. Oliver Luscher earned third in 2:05.71. Martina van Berkel clocked a 2:18.45 to win the women's 200 back. Danielle Sims (2:21.04) and Danielle Villars (2:21.20) touched second and third.

In distance swimming, Jovan Mitrovic won the men's 1500 free in 16:03.06. Joel Escher (16:14.15) and Martin Hohl (16:22.06) picked up second and third. Iris Matthey snagged the women's 800 free in 8:54.47. Julia Hassler (9:06.50) and Cherelle Oestringer (9:14.37) completed the podium.
