USA Swimming Sectionals, Minneapolis: Dagny Knutson Doubles

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 12. DAGNY Knutson kept performing well at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Minneapolis. The meet is taking place in short course yards format.

Despite what the results seem to display, ASK's Dagny Knutson likely won the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:08.61, easily distancing herself from the field. The official results have Lake Country's Kristen Barta "winning" the race in 4:04.17, but that time appears to be based on a 350-yard time. Barta's personal best heading into the evening was a 4:33.03. Apologies to Barta if she actually did cut nearly 30 seconds from her best time to vault into the top 10 of all time. St. Croix's Kaela Anderson placed second in 4:23.83, while Blackline's Kayla Hutsell finished third in 4:26.19.

Knutson doubled up with a 4:41.16 in the women's 500 free. Wildkit's Sarah Thompson (4:56.55) and St. Croix's Hannah Bowen (4:56.81) finished second and third. Knutson also clocked a 1:05.74 in the breaststroke leg of ASK's 400 medley relay team that finished 22nd.

Andrew Knaak won the men's 400 IM in 4:04.21, while Flying Fish's Nicholas Killeen took second in 4:05.55. Des Moines' Colby Kubat finished third in 4:05.81. Notably, Richard Hills clocked a 4:04.07 in prelims but scratched finals. Rapid City's Michael Godbe topped the men's 500 free in 4:29.91, while Sean Nesheim (4:32.61) and Flying Fish Clayton Smith (4:33.63) took second and third.

Bowen won the women's 50 free in 22.94, while Kylsie Grimes (23.23) and Erin Caflisch (23.61) rounded out the top three. Stephen Miller claimed the men's 50 free in 20.21. Mach 3 Flyer Colin Lee-To (20.57) and Matthew Papenfuss (20.88) grabbed second and third.

Aberdeen's Emily Campbell touched out Eau Claire's Leah Pronschinske, 2:18.42 to 2:18.85, in the women's 200 breast. Des Moines' Imelda Wistey finished third in 2:21.00. Jared Anderson cruised in the men's 200 breast with a 2:02.97. Chance Whinnery (2:07.20) and South Central's Alexander Loftus (2:09.47) touched second and third.

St. Croix's Chelsea Richie, Stephanie Lemire, Anderson and Bowen won the women's 400 medley relay in 3:54.12. Black Hawk's Sean Abbas, Jordan Wessels, Garrett Moses and Joshua Sund claimed the men's 400 medley relay in 3:28.76.
