USA Swimming Sectionals, Minneapolis: Dagny Knutson Triples

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 11. DAGNY Knutson certainly gave fans something to cheer for during the second night of short course yard action at the USA Swimming Sectionals held in Minneapolis.

Knutson walked away with three wins. First, she posted a 54.86 in the women's 100 back while representing ASK Swim. Rapid City's Jacie Beagle (54.95) and Fort Atkinson's Katelyn Holmquist (56.82) finished second and third in that race. Knutson followed with a 1:45.34 for the women's 200 free victory. Erin Caflisch (1:50.01) and Wildkit's Sarah Thompson (1:50.29) rounded out the top three in that event. Knutson closed out her evening with a 1:58.32 to win the women's 200 IM. Beagle (2:05.01) and Cory Miller (2:05.64) snared second and third behind her in the shorter medley.

Knutson also swam on the ASK women's 800 free relay as the second leg, clocking a swift 1:46.02. Her squad ended up 11th overall in 8:00.39.

In other women's events, Des Moines' Imelda Wistey won the 100 breast in 1:02.73. Eau Claire's Leah Pronschinske placed second in 1:03.10, while Central Iowa's Katharine Ross touched third in 1:04.80. Hutchinson's Audrey Kumm claimed the 100 fly in 55.99, while West Fargo's Alexis Halberstadt (56.16) and Blackline's Kayla Hutsell (56.22) completed the top three.

Meanwhile, Ames Cyclone Dustin Rhoads won the men's 100 back in 49.25. Tigershark Devon Meeks finished second in 50.91, while McFarland's Ryan O'Donnell took third in 50.91. Matthew Papenfuss touched first in the men's 200 free with a 1:38.88, while Rapid City's Michael Godbe claimed second in 1:39.22. Black Hawk's Garrett Moses turned in a third-place 1:40.79.

David Dorak won the men's 100 fly in 49.42 with Lawrence Formosa (50.08) and Fergus Falls' Donald Hurley (50.16) completing the podium. O'Donnell pocketed his second podium with a first-place time of 1:53.72 in the men's 200 IM. Andrew Knaak took second in 1:53.88, while Des Moines' Colby Kubat placed third in 1:55.24.

Lake Country's Haley Pietila, Kristen Barta, Tracy Vogel and Rachel Borchardt won the women's 800 free relay in 7:39.42, while YWCA Flying Fish Blake Morgan, Nicholas Killeen, Clayton Smith and Max Behles claimed the men's 800 free relay title in 6:56.58.

Men's 100 breast results were not made available at press time.
