Connecticut Senior Open Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Connecticut, March 10. THE Wilton Y Wahoos took control early on of the 2010 Connecticut Senior short-course-yard Open Championships at Wesleyan University's Freeman Athletic Center pool.

University of Pennsylvania-bound swimmer Shelby Fortin from the Wahoos won three individual events, including the 50 free (23.72), 200 free (1:51.39) and 500 free (4:52.34), earning the women's high point award for the meet.

National Youth Team member, Kc Moss from the Wahoos swept the breaststroke events, winning both the 100 breast (1:03.82) and 200 breast (2:18.20).

Other individual winners included future Florida Gator Alicia Mathieu from Sonoco Swim Club, Jessie Ustjanauskas and Sydney Golic. Mathieu won the 1650 free (16:36.80), Ustjanauskas won the 100 fly (56.31), and Golic won the 200 IM (2:07.01).

The Wahoos won two relays including the 400 free relay (3:32.55) and 400-medley relay (3:52.83). Sonoco also picked up a relay win in the 800 free relay (7:44.39)

Colin Higgins, member of the National Youth Team, from the Wahoos won four events individually including the 200 IM (1:55.27), 400 IM (4:06.45), 100 breast (56.67), and 200 breast (2:04.44).

Kaz Takabayashi from Glastonbury Swim Team was also a multiple winner, swimming to first in the 100 back (53.80) and 100 fly (52.34).

The Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club swept the men's relays, winning the 400 free relay (3:21.28), 800 free relay (7:21.88), and 400-medley relay (3:41.67)

The Wilton Y Wahoos won the meet with a combined score of 1032 points, Sonoco Swim Club was second with 1010 points, and the Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club came in third with 964.5 points.
