Maine Class A High School State Championships

BRUNSWICK, Maine, March 8. BANGOR and Morse walked away with state titles at the Maine Class A High School State Championships. The Bangor boys tallied 319.50 points for first while Scarborough took second (270) and Cheverus placed third (244). On the girls' side, Morse won with 255 points followed by Scarborough (210) and Cheverus (198).

Boys Results
Scarborough's Kip Gravel (the 100 free champ in 48.95), Robby Gravel, Jerry Gravel, and Mark Endrizzi won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.27.

R. Gravel had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke (59.63). He set a state record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.08. The previous record (1:55.96) was set by Sean Flaherty in 2002.

Sophomore Cal Rhode (Cheverus) was a dual event winner in the 200 (1:46.18) and 500 (4:51.56) freestyles.

Bangor's Sam Barnett, Taylor Wicks, Ihan Cameron, and Joey Quinn won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.12.

Tim Smith (Bangor) won the diving competition (374.70). Deering's Brian McRae too second (366.40) and Cape Elizabeth's Kevin Flathers placed third (274.60).

Nick Sundquist, Jake Shoberg, Nathan Paluso, and Lance Webster (Windham) had a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.33).

Girls Results
Scarborough won two of three relays. Dayna Ankermann, Samantha Couillard, Laura Flewelling, and Lucy Iselborn won the 200 medley relay (1:56.15).

Flewelling was a dual event winner in the 200 and 500 freestyles. She clocked times of 1:53.56 and 5:17.23, respectively.

Emily Buczkowski (Morse) won the 50 (24.84) and 100 (54.66) freestyles. She teamed up with Guerin Morissette, Catie Luedee and Caitlin Foster for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:45.45).

Sanford's Jenni Roberts had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly. She set state records with times of 2:04.63 and 55.89, respectively.

Top finishers in the diving competition include Meghan Row (Bangor) (308.65), Kayla Purinton (Brunswick) (303.80) and Ashley Higgins (Bangor) (289.40).

Flewwelling, Maya Glab, Andkermann, and Couillard closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:53.15).
