Minnesota Boys Class A, AA High School State Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 8. BRECK/BLAKE and Edina earned state titles at the Minnesota Boys High School State Championships. Breck/Blake won the Class A meet with 275 points followed by Simley (232) and St. Thomas Academy (176). At the Class AA meet, Edina tallied 307 points while Minnetonka took second (216.5) and Cretin-Derham Hall placed third (185).

Class A Results
Breck/Blake won two of three relays. Mitchell Foster, Robert Blease, Sam Pritzker, and Jack Markusen won the 200 medley relay in 1:37.57.

Senior Nathan Yueh (Breck/Blake) was a dual event winner in the 200 and 500 freestyles. He clocked times of 1:41.50 and 4:42.49, respectively.

Fergus Falls' Mike Hurley had individual wins in the 200 IM (1:50.86) and the 100 backstroke. He set a meet record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.90. The previous record (51.02) was set by Breck/Blake's Foster, a freshman, in prelims. He erased Keanan Farug's (Blake/Breck) 1998 record of 51.61 from 1998. Foster took second in finals with a time of 51.14.

Simely won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:27.03. Tony Challeen (the 50 free champ in 20.83), Sam Luby, Alec Kandt, and Nathan Briguet contributed to the win.

Red Wing's Turner Eckstrom tied with the state record in the diving competition with a score of 532.70. Champlin Park's Dan Croaston set the record in 1997.

Yueh, Austin Gromatzky, Pritzker, and Foster had a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:11.42).

Class AA Results
Cretin-Derham Hall won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.76. Brian Dailey-Arndt, Max Keenan, Garr Punnett, and Nick Dailey-Arndt contributed to the win.

B. Dailey-Arndt had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (49.79) and the 100 backstroke (49.49).

Edina's Drew Johnson was a dual event winner in the 200 and 100 freestyles. He clocked times of 1:40.34 and 45.44, respectively. He teamed up with Tim Satterthwaite, Evan Flack, and Chris Satterthwaite for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.94).

Senior Thomas Elling (Burnsville) won the 200 IM (1:52.45) and the 100 breaststroke (57.40).

Minnetonka's Andres Hansen won the diving competition (447.55) while Spring Lake Park's Andy Loesch took second (378.40) and Moorhead's Michael Golling finished third (376.60).

Mike Gratz, Flack, C. Satterthwaite, and Johnson set a state record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:04.68. The previous record (3:05.38) was set by Eden Prairie's C. Seebeck, J. Hauck, Z. Shimota, and M. Solfelt in 2005.
