Maryland 4A/3A High School State Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, March 6. AT the Maryland 4A/3A High School State Championships, Serverna Park walked away with two state titles. On the girls' side, Serverna Park tallied 331 points for first while Urbana took second (300) and C. Milton Wright placed third (212). The Serverna Park boys scored 245 points for first followed by South River (207) and Thomas Johnson (199).

Girls Results
Serverna Park won two of three relays. Melissa Cropper, Olivia Roy, Sarah Lloyd (the 100 butterfly champ in 56.52), and Marissa Hand won the 200 medley relay (1:54.58).

Emily Lloyd (Serverna Park) was a dual event winner. She set state records in the 200 and 50 freestyles with times of 1:52.69 and 23.16, respectively.

Katherine Kline, Cropper, S. Lloyd, and E. Lloyd set a state record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.86.

Freshman Margot Manning (Thomas Johnson) had individual wins in the 200 IM (2:12.07) and the 100 breaststroke. She set a state record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.06. The previous record (1:08.65) was set by Leonardtown's Brittany Culpepper last year.

Urbana's Cassie Sorna and Alexa Santis had individual wins in the 500 freestyle (5:13.45) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.68), respectively. They teamed up with Jessica Jimenez and JoAnna Yeh for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle with a time of 3:40.69.

Boys Results
Dylan Davis (the 100 back champ in 53.90), Matt Shpuntoff, Charlie Melesh, and Austin Smith-Jones (Annapolis) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.08.

Melesh set state records in the 200 IM (1:57.41) and the 100 butterfly (53.03). The previous records (2:00.53 and 54.28) were set by Tim Deklau in 2008 and George Rossick in 2007, respectively.

Freshman Kyle DeVore (South River) won the 200 IM in 1:52.70. He teamed up with Michael Seaberg, Andrew Stevens and Chad Knipschild for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.66).

Thomas Johnson's Willie Sasse clocked times of 49.02 (100 butterfly) and 1:02.55 (100 breaststroke). He joined John Lee, John Igo and Will Goundry for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.41).
