Kyle Whitaker Highlights Indiana Boys High School State Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 3. CARMEL won their first state title since 2004 at the Indiana Boys High School State Championships with 245 points. Munster took second with 217 points and Chesterton placed third (153).

Dillion Thompson, Joe Wulf, Kevin Behrens, and Patrick Raycroft won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.30.

Swimming World five-star recruit Kyle Whitaker (Chesterton) was a dual event winner in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. In the 200 IM, he lowered his overall national record with a time of 1:44.55. Whitaker set the record last year with a time of 1:45.25. Matt Thompson (Jesuit H.S., Texas) still holds the national independent high school record with a time of 1:45.27. In addition, Whitaker set a state record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:19.79. The previous record (4:25.73) was set by North Central's Brian Hartley in 2002. Whitaker teamed up with Matt Roseicki, Taylor Zakhar and Tyler Fozkos (the 50 free champ in 20.84) for a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.39).

Behrens had individual wins in the 100 butterfly (48.46) and the 100 backstroke (49.51).

Top finishers in the dicing competition include Darian Schmidt (Bloomington South) (532.40), Danton Rogers (Bloomington South) (521.25) and Alex Back (Portage) (481.15).

Matt Gerth (Carmel) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.08. He combined with Nik Astashinsky, Jonathan Astashinsky and Charles Williams for a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:06.56).
