CAA Championships: Day Four

FAIRFAX, Virginia, February 27. TOWSON claimed its third-consecutive women's swimming and diving title on Saturday at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.

The Tigers completed the championship hat trick with 792 points, 158.5 more than UNCW's women.

Ashley Danner of George Mason was named the Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer for the second year straight after winning three individual events, two of which were in A-cut times, while teammate Kristen Meier won Women's Most Outstanding Diver after sweeping both boards. Towson's Pat Mead was awarded Women's Coach of the Year and James Madison's Becky Benson earned Women's Diving Coach of the Year.

Danner and Towson's Meredith Budner both tallied 60 points to top the scoring in the women's championship, while William & Mary's Katie Radloff finished with 57 points.

Three more records were set during Saturday's finals, beginning with Danner's A-cut time in the 200 breaststroke. She hit the wall in 2:08.66, besting her previous CAA record she set in prelims (2:09.85).

Budner set the meet record in the 1,650 free, as she finished in 16:10.56, over 18 seconds ahead of any other swimmer. The Tigers took all three medals in the event, with Brooke Golden and Kayla Zeller taking silver and bronze.

UNCW's Stephanie Forlenza tied Mason's Laura Stinnett (2002) for the league record in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:58.80.

Other winners for the women were the Tribe's Radloff, who won the 100 free in 49.14 and Towson's Jordan Crosby, who won the 200 fly in 1:59.68. The Tigers claimed four of the top-five finishes in that race.

The championships concluded with the 400 free relay, as the UNCW women took the race in 3:22.32.
