Kyle Whitaker Lowers 200 IM High School Mark at Indiana State Champs

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana. February 27. RACING at the Indiana State Championships, Chesterton's Kyle Whitaker lowered his national scholastic record in the 200 individual medley, clocking a time of 1:44.55 during Saturday's finals. The effort broke Whitaker's mark of 1:45.25, set last year.

Bound for the University of Michigan, Whitaker was timed in 22.74 for the opening butterfly leg, was 48.90 after the backstroke and touched the wall in 1:19.29 after the breaststroke. Whitaker later added the 500 freestyle to his resume, prevailing in a state-record performance of 4:19.79.

Matt Thompson's time of 1:45.27 while representing Jesuit H.S. in Texas still stands as the national independent high school record.
