Julia Smit Posts Second American, NCAA Record at Pacific 10 Championships

LONG BEACH, California, February 26. STANFORD's Julia Smit clocked her second NCAA and American record in as many nights at the Pacific 10 Championships held in Long Beach, Calif.

Smit turned in a scorching time of 3:58.23 in the women's 400-yard IM to win the event and crush the 4:00 barrier. Smit's previous record heading into the evening had been an already swift 4:00.56 set at the 2009 NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas. Smit not only broke the 4:00 barrier, she shattered it skipped right past 3:59.

Incidentally, she also demolished her meet record of 4:01.56 from last year. Scary to think that she cut a full second from Pac 10s to NCAAs last year. Could 3:57 be in the offing in West Lafayette next month?
