Austria Long Course Championships: Jordis Steinegger Triples

VIENNA, Austria, February 26. JORDIS Steinegger walked away with three gold medals after the second day of the Austrian Long Course Championships held in Vienna today.

Verena Klocker posted a 26.79 in the women's 50 free for the win to open the final session, while Eva Chaves-Diaz took second in 27.15. Marie-Theres Zeilinger completed the top three in 27.71. Martin Spitzer took a run at his national record of 23.01, but fell short with a 23.16 in the men's 50 free. Marcel Schaufler touched second in 24.17, while Dietmar Stockinger earned third in 24.19.

Lisa Zaiser led the way in the women's 100 breast with a 1:12.02. Caroline Reitshammer (1:12.66) and Nicole Pichler (1:13.72) rounded out the top three. Hunor Mate placed first in the men's 100 breast with a 1:02.34. Thomas Narnhofer claimed second in 1:04.39, while Stefan Wipplinger took third in 1:04.79.

Steinegger earned a second gold in as many days, and first of three tonight, with a 2:17.36 in the women's 200 back. Nicole Gross placed second in 2:19.10, while Nina Dittrich finished third in 2:19.39. Sebastian Stoss grabbed the men's 200 back in 2:00.79, while Oliver Simkovic picked up second in 2:07.79. Christian Zluga placed third in 2:10.04.

Steinegger doubled up on the day with a 4:18.92 in the women's 400 free in the following event. Klocker earned second in 4:20.69, while Lisa Praniess posted third in 4:25.96. David Brandl raced to victory in the men's 400 free with a 3:52.98. Florian Janistyn (3:58.34) and Christian Scherubl (4:00.92) finished second and third.

Birgit Koschischek clocked a 1:00.26 for the women's 100 fly title, while Chaves-Diaz took second in 1:02.28. Zaiser claimed a second podium with a third-place 1:03.37. Dinko Jukic knocked down a 53.64 in the men's 100 fly for the win. Spitzer took second in 54.97 with Bernhard Wolf grabbing third in 55.21.

In relays, Dittrich, Anais Szekendi, Juliana Espernberger and Steinegger won the women's 800 free in 8:37.59. Meanwhile, Marcel Schaufler, Jakub Maly, Maxim Podoprigora and Stoss took the men's 800 free title in 7:55.32.
